We have completed our preliminary round of citizen meetings on the New Orleans Citizen Participation project, and it was profoundly moving to hear citizens proclaim their passion for the project. Several used the term "once in a lifetime opportunity" to describe the chance we now have to bring our city back better than it was before -- maybe better than it has ever been. In the aftermath of Katrina, people here have really found their voice, and through that their power, and they are eager to maintain and build on this. They truly understand that New Orleans will be rebuilt at the neighborhood level, and they want with all their hearts to have the opportunity to be the leaders in the rebuilding.

Katrina in many ways is a metaphor for the devastation and destruction of our city core...and its people. Your voice is steeped inside a foundation of hope. How awesome to be able to witness the application of hope at the neighborhood level in a neighbor context. Wisdom Institute, Detroit
