Project Summary

Every house of worship along Embassy Row opens their doors, as leaders and laypeople alike come together in a non political Gandhi-style walk to counter religious intolerance. Motivated by this experiential and often tearful event, walkers create lasting community change via service projects.

About me

The Unity Walk Global Group is led by a dedicated core group interfaith activists, each with separate and very complementary skills. Kyle Poole, the principal founder is an idea man, who offered the original concept of the Unity Walk at on MLKs anniversary in 2005. The Walk has been evolving ever since, and still seen in its infancy. Erik Schwarz -- an interfaith specialist also helped found the Walk & was instrumental in refining the Walk, and "herding the religious cats" -- no small task. If it weren't for Erik the working process so critical to the Walk success wouldn't have happened. Daniel Tutt has truly made the Walk happen as spokesman & by bringing youthful energy, tireless dedication & leadership to the process. Meg Clifford, a host of international visitors at the Meridian Center, has served as a ballast, diplomatic face and volunteer coordinator to the core planning group. As the Unity Walk expands, we look to establish an active advisory committee composed of interfaith leaders, executive directors of service-based groups. Lastly, we seek to export the Walk process to SF, LA, Chi, NY, and Philly next year, by providing existing interfaith organizations advice, guidebooks for facilitating dialogue into action. As we have never received any grant funding, we seek this grant to refine and develop our models in other communities projects -- your leverage is assured!
