Project Summary

The "Is That So?" project creates a forum for defining the basic factual content of controversial and exciting topics, thereby supporting their safe, constructive, and enjoyable discussion in our community, while enlarging the circle of informed and enthusiastic participants.

About me

As a pediatrician with a background in law and philosophy, I enjoy working in interdisciplinary settings and helping people to communicate meaningfully with each other. I teach aikido at our local high school, and currently serve as the Executive Director of Tibet Aid, a nonprofit charitable organization. A graduate of Columbia School of Journalism, Karen Charman is an investigative journalist specializing in agriculture, health, and the environment. Her articles have appeared in print and online publications, including World Watch, Sierra, OnEarth, The Nation, TomPaine.com and Extra! Having not fully outgrown her days as a motorcycle "momma," Mary Herrmann now serves as mom for our entire community: as a volunteer teen mentor at the local community center, as a trained facilitator with the local school district, as a troop leader for both the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts, and as a member of the town's comprehensive planning committee. Dave Channon is an artist, videographer, and web designer. He has worked with over a dozen local artists and organizations to bring their creative vision to life online. Older, wiser, yet no less passionate than the rest of the team (or so he says!), is Richard Schaedle, An avid downhill skier, Rich is also a dedicated public servant. He has served as President of the Pine Hill Water District Coalition, Chair of the Catskill Heritage Alliance, and as an officer and member of the Board of Directors for two local hospitals.
