WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR THIS PROGRAM

While the Make It Your Own Awards grants were awarded in May 2008, the projects live on. Read more about the Top 100 projects, or see what made the MIYO Awards novel. This site has been archived to serve as a resource for anyone wishing to create a similar project in their community.

Males Advocating Change

Project Summary

Our group pledges to be an active force in Central Massachusetts to educate boys and men to be positive role models in changing male myths and stereotypes, taking active roles in violence prevention (NOT "women's issues"), and to never commit, condone, or passively witness acts of violence.

About me

I am a clinical psychologist, father of three daughters, husband, and a life-long guy who has only had his consciousness raised in the past 7 years about what has been referred to as the crisis in masculinity. Well over 90% of all violent crimes, domestic violence, rapes, and school shootings are perpetrated by males. My colleagues, dedicated men and women, have diverse backgrounds but a common goal of ending violence and enhancing positive relations for men and women, and between men themselves, and helping young men to become better men as adults. This can only improve our community.
