MAU Now: Mobilizing the Mamas-- The Joy of Activism is a roaming flexible workshop recipe to engage, inspire and support mothers to move from concern to action in their communities, and replicate their takes on the recipe, thereby affecting generations!

About me

I'm a 40 year old mother to a toddler son. My background is in theatre & speech, writing and community organizing. As a new mother, my life was artistically and actively radicalized. I felt a deep connection to mothers across time and the globe, as well as in my own city even when they themselves seemed to doubt their value and behaved cattily with one another. I joyfully embraced my status as hearth tender and community mama, truly becoming the sassy domestic goddess / everywoman character I'd created in college: Ms. Booty Homemaker. I became an Apron String Revolutionary, raising my son to be a Joy Warrior nursed on the literal and figurative milk of human kindness. I began visiting, along with other mothers, my elected officials, babe on hip. My work for Mothers Acting Up led to piloting a grassroots community model or template to be utilized as befits communities across the nation, using adaptations of my recipes to build community and provide tools for mothers to act up, sharing those tools with other mothers and their children. My heart and eyes opened to the greater community of mothers, I want to share the empowerment and joy I've been learning about with them in greater capacity. I see that my own excitement is met with enthusiasm, warmth and hunger from the women I encounter. Being awarded this grant will enable me through Mothers Acting Up to employ the technology and travel to encourage leadership by mobilizing the mamas, affecting generations to come!
