This site has been archived to serve as a resource for anyone wishing to create a similar project in their community.My Project DiaryCitizens Speak Clearly at First Round of MeetingsApril 2, 2008Project: We have completed our preliminary round of citizen meetings on the New Orleans Citizen Participation project, and it was profoundly moving to hear citizens proclaim their passion for the project. Several used the term "once in a lifetime opportunity" to describe the chance we now have to bring our city back better than it was before -- maybe better than it has ever been. In the aftermath of Katrina, people here have really found their voice, and through that their power, and they are eager to maintain and build on this. They truly understand that New Orleans will be rebuilt at the neighborhood level, and they want with all their hearts to have the opportunity to be the leaders in the rebuilding. |
