MAKING WASHINGTON THE HEALTHIEST STATE IN THE NATION!

Many thanks to Gina Legaz and the wonderful staff at The Washington Health Foundation in Seattle for publicizing MAKING HEALTH OUR OWN to over 1,000 organizations in Washington State. YOU GUYS ABSOLUTELY ROCK! Also, I am so excited about a possible joint-conference presentation on initiating citizen-driven processes at the Statewide Assessment Conference in Wenatchee. The Case Foundation voting process has provided networking opportunities that will definitely helping us accomplish our joint goals. THANKS AGAIN! -Susan

Building Bridges with the Slavic Community

Project staff are scheduled to attend the April 12th Building Bridges event at the Slavic Baptist Church in Bellingham. Participants have been asked to come prepared to talk a bit about "your family's journey to America", whether it was recent, a few generations ago, or over 4,000 years ago. Participants will also share their hopes and dreams for life in Whatcom County. We will distribute flyers in Russian for our upcoming HEALTH COUNTS COMMUNITY CONVERSATION at Kendall Elementary School on April 23.

Announcement of Public Forum for Farm Workers

An additional public forum has been added to our HEALTH COUNTS COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS. This forum is scheduled for May 19 from 6:30-9:30 in the evening in the farming community of Everson. English- and Spanish-language flyers are in process to publicize the event.

Making Health Our Own PARTICIPANT VIEWPOINT

Last Wednesday I went to a three hour seminar thinking when I left home, "Oh, no, not 3 hours of nothing." And was I ever surprised. This was an awesome experience for me and the time flew by. This is a grass-roots opportunity for our voices to be heard about the things that are near and dear to our heart. The two issues I went to were on aging and on teen pregnancy - and both gave me more information and insight. I hope you will entertain going to the session at Kendall Elementary School since it is so close. Feel free to forward this message to anyone else you think might be interested. We have an opportunity to be HEARD!
