Environmental Change Makers' Edible Landscaping Garden Tour

Environmental Change-Makers meetings often focus on gardens - organic, edible landscapes - because changing our food means changing a very basic element of our lives. Here we touch the soil, remember our connection to the earth. Sharing gardening tips and successes is an easy and "safe" way to create bridges between neighbors who had never been close before. In May 2007 several members opened their gardens for group tours, in an event which opened home and heart to the community. We plan to expand our tour in 2008.

Environmental Change Makers event on Solar Cooking

Joanne tells the crowd about solar cooking and global warming solutions at our June 2007 monthly meeting. At this event, 65 participants (including 22 children) built their own solar cookers and learned how to use them. Solar cooking uses the pure clean energy of the sun to cook your food. Each month, the Change-Makers' regular meeting focuses on a different set of environmental solutions. Read more about our meetings at www.EnviroChangeMakers.org

Environmental Change Makers' March for Climate Action

The Change-Makers lead a march down a highly visible Los Angeles boulevard, as part of the April 2007 national Step It Up campaign to raise awareness of the need for climate action. Members and leadership of local churches, mothers with their children, and environmnetal activists marched together in what has typically been a quiet, politically conservative, area of the city. With MIYO funding we hope to host a small conference on positive environmental action and mentor other citizen organizations in our area.

Environmental Change Makers host Ed Begley, Jr.

In March 2007, the Change-Makers hosted activist and renowned environmentalist Ed Begley, Jr. His presentation, Live Simply So That Others May Simply Live, drew over 100 attendees from the area. With MIYO funding, we hope to host a similar headliner speaker in 2008.

Environmental Change Makers' Earth Care Fair

The Environmental Change-Makers have hosted an annual Earth Care Fair in October. The fair showcases environmental solutions: What You Can Do about a variety of topics from gardens to transportation and beyond. With MIYO grant money, we hope to expand our 2008 fair to reach more people and involve more organizations in this positive-focused, awareness-raising event.
