Finally Finished

After a hard day's work, we break for a group photo, but not everyone's ready or willing since it's starting to rain.

Close to Home

Jamaal shows Patrick his house, which borders the park, and tells him how drug activity has literally destroyed his backyard.

Making It Work

Patrick won't be stopped by a broken broom!

Teamwork

Michael, Shakira and Nefertit make things happen with their efforts.

Torn Up!

The places where small children play are unsafe, because the surface covering that should be in place to protect them if they fall is all torn up and in disrepair. Much of the playground equipment is in a similar condition.

More Waves than the Ocean

Our basketball court lies in ruins. Years of neglect have led to upheavals in the ground. Now, only half the court is useable.

Drunk or Fightin'

People who are in the park after dark are usually there to drink, use drugs or fight. Broken bottles like this symbolize both, as broken bottles are used in fights (after their contents are finished - leading to the fight).

Where the Needles Are

Our park is used by both drug dealers and drug addicts. Behind the tree cover, they sell drugs and shoot up. Some make money, while others shoot up, but we just want a place to play.

On the Steps of Hopeworks

We took this photo the day before our cleanup, right after we completed two weeks of planning for the cleanup which would take place the next day. You can tell some of us were tired by the looks on our faces!
