WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR THIS PROGRAM

While the Make It Your Own Awards grants were awarded in May 2008, the projects live on. Read more about the Top 100 projects, or see what made the MIYO Awards novel. This site has been archived to serve as a resource for anyone wishing to create a similar project in their community.

Project Summary

The Phinney EcoVillage is part of the new movement of "localization." We are particularly concerned about global warming and realize that getting active in your neighborhood is an effective way to engage in our climate change crisis.

About me

I have my doctorate in education from Stanford where I focused on community education. For several years I was the director of continuing education in a local commuity college (which serves my neighborhood.) For many years I have given workshops on the issues of simplicity and sustainability and I also wrote a column for the Seattle Times. These activities have given me a certain visibility in the community that makes it easier for me to bring people together. Most of the people in our core planning group are eductors who want to encourage commuity and activism. I have been an adjunct faculty member at Seattle University and I hope to involved college students in our efforts.
